This 1st of May the Asia X-Game is on in Shanghai China. Malaysia is sending some of our extreme sports athlete to represent the country. Not like other main stream sports their responsible bodies or association will have their team prepared or in training throughout the year the extreme sport athlete will be selected on ad-hok (all in last minute) No proper centralise training, no proper coaches, equipment provide on last minute. But than this is extreme sport we are talking everything extreme.
These Skateboarders, inline skaters, BMX riders and Wall climbers in representing Malaysia are not full time athlete. Sure they wanted to be full time athlete, but who's going to feed them. Most of them got jobs for everyday expanses. But if they got to go to work ? How about training ? after work at night, but that time most of the public training parks are close or without lights. How to compete with professional guys that got all the time in the world to train.
Sponsors is the answer. But here in Malaysia are mostly "flow sponsors" which provide only equipments. And again who's gonna feed them. The main stream sports athlete are lucky to get proper attention from their association and bodies so did from the government with its ministries. Some of them are trained by professionsl at countries such as the US,UK,Australia,Germany and others.
I wonder do the public, the media, the sports and youth ministries know that there are Malaysian taking part in this international event. ESPN is going to show it live. For Malaysian via ASTRO tv.
Or do they know that skateboarding is a sport.
